Irrespective of the size or type of vessel we sail, there are 6 key things a sailor needs to keep themselves, their boat and their crew safe and enjoy pain-free sailing for decades to come. These are balance, agility, flexibility, strength , coordination and cardiovascular endurance..
In addition to focusing on those 6 critical areas, these classes also aim to help alleviate and prevent the common injuries and aches that tend to go hand in hand with regular sailing (like backache, hip pain, frozen shoulder) and also work on helping you build the flexibility, strength and balance that will help you sail better and keep you, your crew and your boat safe.
A big part of these classes is the movement re-patterning and focus on building the strength and stability of your core. When sailing we tend to rely heavily on our arms, upper body and core for most of the strength we need. Our Sail 100 Pilates classes will train your body to use them as a unit, along with the strength you have in your lower body so your power output is maximised with far less effort.
Learning to use your core as the powerhouse that draws strength form the entire body so it can be channeled where it is most needed will take your performance and enjoyment to a whole new level.
